Canon EOS R mirrorless camera is the first in the new EOS R Mirrorless system technology. Coming with a new mount, a variety of dedicated lenses, full compatibility with EF/EF-S lenses, and significant achievements in handling and performance. If you are talking about the Canon EOS R Price in Nepal then you also want to check out the Canon EOS R5 and R6 Price in Nepal. Among them, both are very capable cameras with the new upgraded features.

After the RF mount system, Canon’s mirrorless cameras have been quite successful for the company, offering remarkable optical characteristic that sets the bar quite high. After the release of Canon EOS R6 and R5 canon already announced the Canon R3 development which might come with the 1DX series type body and design, let’s see what canon can offer from that camera in terms of spec and features.

Canon EOS R5 Camera Price in Nepal

If you are just coming from the EOS R, this camera is everything you wanted the R to be. Everything you loved about the R is still here – focus accuracy, face/eye detection, bright usable electronic viewfinder. The R5 steps this up and brings a nearly lag-free viewfinder (at a higher resolution), very high-speed autofocus including eye/face detection, IBIS, and many other features. The most important thing is the lag-free viewfinder and the focusing ability to keep up with kids and still maintain amazing accuracy. The only downside you might have to face is fairly short battery life. The Canon EOS R5 price is around 5 lakh Rupees in Nepal.

UPDATE 1:

The camera works great. If you are not a video shooter, but if you were, you probably would not be happy, as all the high-speed/high-quality modes have short use times. If you take photos for a couple of hours with no video, a lot of the video modes are not available due to heating problems. If you start 4K HQ record and within 2 minutes, you will get the overheat warning.

Another issue you’ll get into is the wifi does not work at all on my unit. you can’t connect to any of my wireless access points to try out the photo syncing features. Not everyone is having this issue so it could be a problem for short units. If you are getting a problem like this you can contact canon support.

UPDATE 2:

Over several photo sessions, you will notice that not only does taking photos to reduce the video time available, but it also makes the camera physically warm to the touch, something that you’d not experienced in any other camera before. Due to this and the wifi issues, this camera becomes controversial.

UPDATE 3:

Something about it the R5 does not like. I’ve seen reports of others with the same issues, so hopefully, this can be fixed with a firmware update. If this is fixed with a firmware update, It will be one of the best cameras on the market for professional creators and filmmakers. As for the overheating issue, the camera does continue to get a bit warm during shooting, but from what I’ve read, this is normal for a mirrorless camera with IBIS.

Canon EOS R6 Camera

This is the smaller brother of the Canon R5 comes with great features. Canon EOS R6 gives you more opportunities to capture the perfect moment in time. Shoot the action at up to a staggering 20 frames per second silently, capturing fleeting moments that are barely perceptible to the human eye.

If you mostly shoot JPG and use RAW for those difficult pictures that in-camera processing may not produce the best results. If you are planning to buy a Canon EOS R then you might also give it a change to the R6 as well. The Canon EOS R6 ‘s price is around 3.3 lakh Rupees in Nepal.

The good side of Camera

    • The camera is a delight to handle and is easy to like.
    • Autofocus is superb with either lens. While taking pictures of our 4-month-old standard poodle puppies, who would never keep still, I nailed focus around 85% of the time, compared to 65% for the Sony A7RIV and 50% for the Nikon Z7/Z6 using their equivalent lenses.
    • I compared the JPG output to my Sony A7RIV which is a 60 MP camera and preferred the out-of-camera JPGs from the R6 in both color and sharpness. The 66% fewer pixels were not readily apparent on an X2 image on my 2020 27″ iMac which was surprising.
  • Quiet shutter with amazing shutter operational speed in electronic and mechanical mode.
  • The supplied kit lens is remarkably good and the JPG output is indistinguishable from the f/4 constant aperture L series RF lens I have (In-camera correction is a wonderful thing). It is slow at maximum focal length (105mm, f7.1) but this only affects low light conditions and the R6 has the dynamic range and low enough noise sensor to not mind using high ISOs. The only reason not to use this lens on a regular basis is its lack of weather sealing and variable aperture over the focal length range.
  • Sensor stabilization is superb. I was taking shots at a 1-second shutter speed and getting a great hit rate.

The not so good Side Of Camera

  • The camera feels cheap and plasticky when compared to the Sony A7RIV, Nikon Z7/Z6, and my beautiful Fujifilm X-T3. It is solid enough but does not give that carved from a solid billet of steel that the other 3 manage to do. It does not feel like a nearly $3K camera.
  • The thumb joystick is too far to the left and I often missed it until I got used to it.
  • The multifunction wheel on the back cannot be used to move the focus point, it is rotational only. I miss the ability to press one side of the wheel to get to a function or move the focus starting point.
  • The 20 MP resolution is fine if you do not crop in to get close-ups. You soon run out of decent resolution, though not as soon as you would expect. I often use the ability to crop in on my higher resolution cameras in place of a good zoom.
  • Lack of a decent constant aperture f/4 70 to 200 in the RF range of lenses. I use my old faithful f/2.8 EF 70 to 200 with an adapter, That is one heavy lens!! One equivalent to the RF f/2.8 70 to 200 lens would be wonderful and means I may always take this camera (I do not want to spend the money on the f/2.8 and I want something more compact).
  • The kit lens is without a lens hood or case which, in a $2800 The camera kit seems a little cheap to me. The f/4-7.1 kit lens is not weather-sealed.
  • No camera charging cables etc. which are usually included with cameras in this price range.

Canon EOS R Camera

I am very glad the EOS R eco-system came out when it did since I was already considering moving up from my EOS 80D DSLR (APS-C sensor) to a full-frame (FF) sensor DSLR like the EOS 6D Mark II or 5d Mark IV. This upgrade made perfect sense to me and my video/photography styles since I already wanted to upgrade anyway and I am also heavily invested already in the Canon EOS eco-system with Canon EF/EF-S lenses, Canon Speedlites, and accessories like SD cards and the LP-6N battery (which both the 80D and R bodies use for their battery).

Just one minor issue using a Speedlite with Auto ISO set in Av, Tv, or Fv modes. The ISO does not drop below 1600 if first looking at a dark scene where the ISO goes above 1600 – the Auto ISO will only come back down to 1600 – no lower. If looking at a brighter scene that is below ISO 1600, the Auto ISO adjusts just fine with a Speedlite. Auto ISO, with a Speedlite, should drop the ISO to 100-800 depending on the amount of light, Aperture and Shutter speeds, etc. Canon will probably fix this in its next firmware update. The Canon EOS R priced at 1.97 lakh Rupees in Nepal.

Price and performance-wise, the EOS R falls right between the 2 FF DSLRs that I was considering anyway. For my lens collection, all of the following lenses will work great on the EOS R (with an adapter) – Fantastic job Canon! 👍👍

So, on to the negatives of the EOS R:
  • No In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS)
  • No Dual card memory slot
  • Cropped 4k video.

These features do not really matter If these are not on your priority list for video/photo shooting style that your workflow in processing videos/images.
  • In my opinion, lens stabilization works better than IBIS, but still would have been nice for lenses without built-in stabilization.
  • The second card slot would have been nice, but I just honestly don’t care either way.
  • If I ever feel the burning need to be a vlogger, I will purchase the EF-S 10-18mm STM lens for around $250-$300 bucks, since they will both be cropped together, otherwise cropped 4k video or full 1080P is fine for my types of video work.

Now on to the positives of the EOS R. One of my wishes came true with the RF 24-105mm, f/4 L IS USM – first “L” lens with Nano USM motors – a HUGE plus! Canon heard its customers! Based on my experiences with the nano USM lenses listed and the new RF 24-105 F/4L, the nano USM motors are blazing fast for auto-focusing and dead silent. The USM motors are fast and silent too, but definitely not as fast nor as silent as the nano USM motors. So, using a nano USM lens, along with the silent shooting mode from the EOS R, makes for a great combo doing video work and/or for taking photographs in places where you do not want sounds coming from your camera (weddings, funerals, churches, school functions, etc.)!

Important Camera Terms

  • Image quality – Very nice WOW factor – all I can say here if you are already a Canon shooter the images are crisp, clean and impressive as always
  • Ergonomics – very nice – fits well in the hand just like a DSLR but a little smaller and lighter
  • Menu system – just like my 80D – very similar if you are already a Canon shooter – it will take me some time to get used to the slight differences though
  • Color Science – you get that great all around Canon color science – matches very nicely with my 80D
  • I absolutely LOVE the new 3rd Control ring and the fully articulated screen – just brilliant! Especially since I am so used to the fully articulated screen on the 80D.
  • Another HUGE plus with having a mirrorless camera – no more micro-adjusting lenses! YAY! WOOT! PARTY TIME! 😎😎
  • Micro-adjusting lenses are very time-consuming and a very tedious process to get lenses correctly focused in, even using an automated tool like FoCal.
  • Having the new RF fast glass available to purchase and the drop-in circular polarizing/Variable ND filters (Behind the lens! No more purchasing different size filters for the front of the lenses!) – more huge pluses! The other companies with mirrorless cameras do not even come close to these new very fast aperture lenses and filter options.

Canon EOS RP Camera

All in all, Canon RP seems to be a very good camera. Other than the resolution, I still prefer the images from my 6D. I think the body is a little cheapy feeling because you already know this camera is the cheapest canon full-frame camera on the market right now. The ergonomics are good and you really don’t need the extra bottom plate unless you have gigantic hands.

It has a good grip and as everyone has mentioned, it’s very light. Of course, until you add some big EF lenses. Other than the nice grip it tends to remind me of a Sony in that everything is minimal, controls are flush to the body, all black. I would have preferred a little better leatherette cover and some more SLR-like controls. However, I’m being picky here and this would all affect the size and weight of the camera.
The Canon EOS RP priced at 1.89 lakh Rupees in Nepal.

The EVF is a top-notch feature. For landscapes, in particular, there really has been no other way but Live View through the LCD, but that has changed. You can almost forget about the rear LCD except for certain purposes, the EVF is that good. It allows you to control everything and see everything including exposure. You can see in the EVF whether the sky is blown out etc. And thanks to drag and focus, you can easily move the focus point, get the exposure you like, and lock it in with exposure lock. It is very much like having a peephole LCD. Big points for this.

The autofocus is excellent and you can have a combination of them in place at the same time. The eye detects focus from my limited use is very fast and does a great job. If you want to change the focus, just touch your LCD while looking through the EVF and you can move it, almost anywhere in the frame.

There are a number of other great features such as focus bracketing that I’ve yet to try, but that one has the potential to be great. So all that being said, let’s get to the image quality.
